Simulating Sea‐Ice Deformation in Viscous‐Plastic Sea‐Ice Models With CD‐Grids

چکیده
Abstract Linear kinematic features (LKFs) are found everywhere in the Arctic sea‐ice cover. They strongly localized deformations often associated with formation of leads and pressure ridges. In viscous‐plastic (VP) models, simulation LKFs depends on several factors such as grid resolution, numerical solver convergence, placement variables mesh. this study, we compare two recently proposed discretization a CD‐grid respect to their ability reproduce LKFs. The first (CD1) is based nonconforming finite element discretization, whereas second (CD2) uses conforming subgrid discretization. To analyze resolution properties, evaluate runs from different models (e.g., FESOM, MPAS) benchmark problem using quadrilateral, hexagonal triangular meshes. Our findings show that CD1 setup simulates more deformation structure than CD2 setup. This highlights importance type spatial for Due higher number degrees freedom, both CD‐grids resolve traditional A, B, C‐grids at fixed mesh level. an advantage approach, high needed VP simulate

Spatial Variability of SeaIce Properties in the Northwestern Weddell Sea
Arrays of sea-ice cores were taken at 0.25-, 2-, and 20-m spacing from three floes of presumably 2 years' age in the northwestern Weddell Sea. Texture, salinity, chlorophyll a, and nutrient concentrations were determined in order to study the small-scale variability of these properties. Their vertical distribution patterns are similar between core samples from a specific floe. Mean salinity exh...

In this paper, we present an adaptive approach for simulating elastic deformation of homogeneous and inhomogeneous objects based on continuum mechanics. In typical adaptive simulation approaches, the deforming elastic object is usually subdivided to form a tree structure on the fly. However, they are not directly applicable for inhomogeneous elastic deformation, since the elasticity matrix, whi...
متن کاملSimulating process chain models with OMNeT++
This paper presents an approach to simulate complex hierarchical process chains resulting from large logistics networks in OMNeT++, a discrete event simulation environment designed for communication networks. For this purpose OMNeT++ has been integrated as a new simulation engine into the ProC/B toolset which is designed for the analysis and optimization of large logistics networks. The paper h...
